Big Names , Big Money, Big Games I Missed

I'M SURE WE HAVE A FEW PLAYERS THAT HAVE STORIES ABOUT "YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE LAST NIGHT"

#1 As a teen in the local pool hall, I watched Happy Yeager a billiard and snooker champion in K.C.,Missouri.
One night a player came in and started a money game of snooker with him, I don't remember now it went but the guy beat Happy, shortly after that he was killed in a car wreck...Never got to see Don DeCoy play, did anyone else??

# 2 In the same time frame, I left to go home and found out that a man came in to play Happy, they played 9-ball and due to some odd actions ,Happy beat him. A local railroad man came in drunk and was bad mouthing the visitor,that made him so mad he missed shots that was unlike him...Willie Mosconi
 
How about the big money?? I missed the action in Raytown, Missouri,
The late ,great Jay Swanson came through and played a good local giving up weight and took home the cash,. $75,000.00 or $ 85,000.00 I don't know for sure cause I missed it.

That's got to go down as my favourite Mosconi story. Who'd ever have guessed he worked on the railroad.

Yes, at DCC this year I missed the Bartrum (?spelling?)-Orcullo and the Bartrum-Appleton match-ups.

Our forum's own JCIN knew about these games AND DIDN'T CALL ME TO TELL ME!!!!!!! Normally I would just kick someone's a$$ for such neglect (almost criminal in my view); but he is slightly larger than myself, and good sense prevailed. I think he felt grateful that I spared him a beating, because he did call later in the week to let me know about the Breedlove-LilJon match-up.

I was in D.D.C. the last 5 years and misseed a lot of money matchs but who can stay awake for them all.??

I was talking to Little Swaney awhile back --- he played with Jay Swanson in SoCA. (he was given the "Little Swaney" name since both he and Jay played in the same room, had the same last name) He had some stories about Swaney. Me, I can still see the cork wrap on his cue - it was one of those not important memories that seem to be bigger than life.

Well I expect Lil John would get mad. They probably fell out during their railroad days. I expect Lil John couldn't understand why Willie had given it all up to become a pool player.

Don Decoy was a great player from the 50's and 60's who I do not recall seeing play. I just heard a lot about him. Per your PM, Don McCoy was a very good player out of Iowa who still owns a poolroom there if I'm not mistaken. He would be well into his 50's now.
 
The player was named Don Decoy ,killed in a crash. Are you thinking of Don Mc Caughe???

durn if he was a great player in the 50s and 60s, and its 2007 and hes well into his 50s now, ummmmm........he musta been playin at birth lol

Two different guys. Read my post again. One named Don Decoy and one named Don McCoy.
