Billiard Ball cleaning questions

I purchased a set of Aramith "Premier" billiard balls (61mm or 2 and 3/8) about two week ago. I played with them and they of course got dirty. When I went to my local billiard store "Gameroom Gallery" the owner told me he did not have the Aramith billiard ball cleaner, he told me he had something better though. He sold me a polisher, not a cleaner, called "Novus 2 Fine Scratch Remover". On the bottle it says removes fine Scratches and restores Original appearance to Plastics. I asked the owner if their was Wax in the Polish and he said there was not.

Has anybody used this stuff to polish the balls before? Am I able to use a wash rag to polish the balls or should I be using a Chamois or special fabric so as not to hurt the balls?

I asked the owner about cleaning balls and he told me to use a little Tide detergent and water and use a soft brush to clean the balls. I cleaned his balls using the detergent method have not played with them since cleaning. I remember going to a tournament and I believe that was what the people running the tournament were doing to the balls to clean them.

Is Alcohol safe to use as a ball cleaner?

I use the Novus #2 product on a pinball machine that i own. The product it self is good. However I have never used it for cleaning billiard balls. We use a spray product called Brillianize and a Ball Star cleaner at our club. Alcohol was used for a little while and there did not seem to be any trouble with it.

Aramith recommends using ONLY Aramith Ball Cleaner (of course). At home, it is the ONLY thing I use. Aramith strongly advises against using any water or alcohol on the balls. So, if you use a wax, the balls will go crazy, but it will not harm the balls (I believe). I think Aramith works great, just make sure that you wipe off as much cleaner as possible before putting the balls into a ball-cleaning machine to prevent buildup.
