Billiard coaches?

I don't think this belongs in the ask the instructor so I am going to ask it here? Are there any coaches in the US? I would think that some of the old guard still have a lot to contribute but I am unaware of any of them stepping into the coach/mentor role...

I have no idea why the mindset is different here than europe... I know Eckert, Oliver Ortman and I think Thomas Engert mentor, instruct and coach... The private club/academy structure over there may be the foundation for this occurring... I think John Barton said there was a coach in China that was considered the best in the biz....

While I am still finding rough edges I would likely be more inclined to seek out a coach at the current playing level I am at than to search out an instructor. Maybe I am wrong and some instructors do both but I tend to think of them more as a few sessions as needed or a clinic approach.....

Just random thoughts on a Friday night after reading about someone's lesson with Nick Varner... We all know many pros who were mentored coming up and they all seem to have exceeded the performance levels of the pros without said mentoring and coaching....

INSTRUCTOR: Gives the knowledge to the student and helps them understand the material.

COACH: Aids the student on an ongoing basis in being able to perform & apply the skills.

SPF INSTRUCTOR: Both

How about Mark Wilson? He is one of the best Instructor/Coach in the USA.

I've coached a few pretty fair country players who had some success - Keith, Tang Hoa, Danny Medina, Rafael and yes even SVB. Also gave some words of advice to John Schmidt before he won the Sands tourney. He was a nervous wreck before the finals, so we straightened that out. There have been several other players who I've coached in some way or fashion.

Anybody I back I also coach, kind of goes with the territory.

Yes, if you want to have a title you must get certified.

2. How good do coaches/instructors tend to be as players?

That's probably an individual basis. The ones I work with are great at both.
