Hedgesville woman is accused of beating a sleeping woman with a billiards cue, only to find out she attacked the wrong person.

Chandra Dawn Gray, 21, of Hedgesville, was arrested Saturday after a sheriff's deputy responding to a disturbance call at Pikeside Motel saw her walking from room 116 covered in blood and carrying a pool stick.

Gray is accused of beating Kimberly Lane in the head while Lane was sleeping in the darkened room.

"It turned out it was the wrong person,'' Deputy S.D. Myers of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department told The (Martinsburg) Journal. Lane, who was treated and released from City Hospital, "was totally innocent.''

Lane told investigators that two women came into her room using a key and tried to put duct tape on her mouth during the attack.

It was not immediately clear how they ended up in Lane's room by mistake or why they were looking for the intended target. Myers said police are still trying to figure out how the two women got a key to Lane's room.

Gray is charged with malicious assault, a felony that carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence. Her preliminary hearing is set for May 10 before Magistrate Harry Snow.

Myers couldn't be reached Tuesday by The Associated Press for any additional information, including whether the other woman with Gray has been charged.

The first thought that crossed my mind, was that I wondered if the cops would find the other attacker when they find out where that pool cue came from. Just a guess.

The bad of it is this story will evolve into a pool player beating an innocent person into a pulp. Another cue wielding bandit polishing the pool image.

I wonder if the cue stick attack carries the same charge as if she would have used a baseball bat or other sports equipment. You can seriously kill someone with either one of them.

This type of situation brings a few questions to mind. :p

Was it a one piece or two peice cue? Custom or Production?
What weight?
Tip?
Wrap?
Shaft?

If it was anything other and a cheap bar cue, then it's a shame that bad things happen to good sticks.

Seriously, anyone being attacked with a deadly weapon is no joke. Just trying to lighten up the mood a little. No offense intended.

I wouldn't worry too much about that.

"Hey mom, could I go play pool?"
"No honey, I heard that some crazy woman pool player thrashed someone with a cue. Too dangerous."
"OK, I'll play golf instead."

And another future Efren Reyes leaves the sport...

I've noticed some of the pro's taking more time between shots. I can't think of the men I have seen lately taking more time at the moment, but Vivian is one of the women that is and her game has gone up a notch. I can't see why it wouldn't improve just about anyones game with a quick trigger. Johnnyt
