I'm looking for a little advice on something that I can't to figure out, so I thought I seek some of the collective wisdon here.
It's been a long wait, but I'm finally finishing the basement to set up my billiard room. I'm going to put in a 9' Gold Crown, although I'm not sure which version (III, IV, or V). I've seen a lot of people now prefer Diamond, but that's a whole other subject.
My main concern now is the lighting. I'm trying to figure out the minimum wattage for acceptable lighting. The light I'm currently considering has 3 cones at 75W each (6' in length). I know that it's pretty low compared to what's available, but I was wondering if there's any guidelines for lighting. I've seen the BCA standard, but two thing about that: 1) I'm not sure I actually understand how many watts translates into lux or footcandles, and 2) I'm not trying to have a tournament in my basement.
What I'd like is enough light at the optimal placement. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? Any advice is truly appreciated. Sorry about the long-winded post...
Here's the basic questions I'm trying to answer:
For a 9' table, is a 6' light enough to cover the table?
Is 4 lights better than 3? Is 3 enough for the 9' table anyway?
How many watts does it take to effectively light a 9' table ?
What height above the table is good for the bottom of the light fixture?
