Billiards at the Bay Area?

Hello,

I will visit the Bay Area for business at August lasting six month. Are there some recommendations for places to playing pool, especially straight pool? I only like to play on 9ft. Is there somebody who can help me out? I´m coming from abroad and have no idea where I have to look for locations. If there is somebody, who wants to play against me, just ask...

Thank you in advance... hopefully you can understand my english, its not the best but I will try it.

Best,
A.

Depends on what city you will be staying in.

San Francisco- Family Billiards

Mt. View- California Billiards

San Jose- Shoreline Billiards

San Ramon- Crown Billiards

Emeryville- Broken Rack

I could go on, can you be more specific?

Edgies in milpitas is a hidden little mom and pop place that has 9 ft tables plus 6 three cushion tables.

I believe that couple of the tables have the tighest pockets around.

Nice place.

In south San Jose, there's Cuetopia.

Most places have at least a few shimmed 9-ft'ers, just ask for them if that's what you want.

Shoreline Billiards has a Tuesday night straight pool league. It's in Mountain View, not San Jose.

Oh nice, a league would be very nice. I will be somewhere arround Palo Alto, I still have no idea where I will stay there and for what money... But I think Mt. View, Menlo Park or Sunnyvale. Problem is, thats my firs time in the states and I really cant imagine, how popular billiards is there, in Germany every smaller city have at least his own club with about 20 or more active members. Thank you for helping.

If you are coming to that area, you should stay at the hotel right across the street from California Billiard Club. Here is the link: Crestview Hotel. The hotel is priced reasonably, across the street from the poolroom(one of the best in the country), and they have a free continental breakfast. The location is real close to the freeways, so you can go anywhere you need.

Sorry, I am looking for housing opportunities, not for hotels but thank you. Yes, maybe is there somebody who will play... I will stay in PA for 6 or 7 month. Is craigslist the best way to get an overview about appartments or studios? I look for a safety region and will spend up to 1000 $ for a furnished room.

I've shot in almost all the pool halls in the bay area at least once. In the south bay, I prefer Shoreline Billiards in Mountain View.

Since you're going to be around Stanford then you have to make a stop at the California Billiard Club. Simply put, it is a great room.

Craigslist can have scams on it. Someone in Nigeria tried to rent out my home while i was still living in it (the scammer requested wire transfer of deposit funds). Every town or city has it's bad and it's good neighborhoods.

Do your research. Yelp(.com) could be a decent tool to review real estate rental agencies.

Good luck and welcome.

You might get a furnished room in a house or shared condo for maybe $1K in Palo Alto .. maybe a tiny studio if you get lucky.

Prepared to be shocked when you come around to one of the most expensive area to live in USA. It's also one of the most beautiful place around the world (northern CA), IMHO.

From Palo Alto, CBC (California Billiard Club) in Mountain View is the place to be ... and that's where I play

Hidy Ho <--- please note that there is Palo Alto and there is East Palo Alto ... two vastly different 'hood, if you are CL searching.

Mountain View

If you are planning on staying for 6 months my suggestion would be the Marriot Suites in Mountain View. Its like a condo that is rented weekly and monthly. They have full kitchens and seperate rooms. Verry reasonably priced. I have alot of corporate business men that stay their for 3 months up to a year. Good thing is there is no down payment or security deposits, it is ran like a hotel.

Oh and did I mention that my pool room California Billiard Club is within walking distance.

Good luck on your search and if you need any assistance send me an email at cabilliatdclub@yahoo.com and I will help out as much as I can.

Chris
