Because of the popularity of Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante and Ronnie Alcano, the game of billiards is again getting popular with the masses. Due to the tournament wins of these Filipino players, people are so excited to play the game again. Now, anywhere you go, you'll find billiard halls springing around the country on every corner and shopping malls. What do this game have that makes it exciting to an ordinary man on the street? We went around these joints and try to find out why.
Places like this (street corner pool halls) are pretty cheap. For 10 pesos (20cents) per game you'll be able to play (Now you know why Filipinos love Rotation). People usually play poker pool nowadays. A game wherein you pocket the balls based on the number you've got on your card. People are following this stuff due to Efren's first foray into pool. Efren used to just hang around pool halls to watch people play. So, if you've got nothing to do, just hangout and watch.
1st Interview (Kuya Dennis)
Host: Of the many games available, why it is that billiards was the one you choose.
KD: It's good 'coz the place is near my home and there is no risk in getting injured. (hhhmmm…)
H: Do you play a lot?
KD: Yes, if I have nothing to do. But sometimes, I'm busy.
H: Who do you play with?
KD: Just neighborhood friends.
H: Where did you learn to play?
KD: By going to billiards hall.
H: So, what do you get in playing billiards.
KD: Happiness and sports.
2nd Interview (Pan to 2 Guys with the same question)
2G: we want to learn and become a pool star.
H: How often do you play?
2G: Almost every night.
H: Who do you play with?
2G: Various friends who are available.

On establishments like this, it's expensive to play. Usually, these places charge at an average of 150 pesos (US$3) per hour. Mostly, 9-ball is played and tournaments are often run on these places and are visited by players from all-over. These places have nice setup, good music, spotters (mostly lovely ladies

), tables are spaced out well and smoking rooms to those patrons that need them. Rules on table and equipment use are strictly enforced due to the quality their equipment.
3rd Interview (Jonathan Yan)
H: Of the many sports available, why billiards was your chosen past-time.
JY: Billiards, ah... you know, it's fun. Fun and at the same time, it will test your precision and skills. I want to enhance my skills as I plan to join WPC.
H: Do you play billiards a lot?
JY: Mostly after work. I want to relax even for awhile.
H: Where do you usually play?
JY: The pool hall near my place of work. At Paeng's in Robinsons Galleria.
H: Who do your regular play with?
JY: Colleagues and/or friends. We call each other and gather here to play.
H: What do you get out of this?
JY: Definitely, it enhances my skills. There is math involved. I've learned to use math, especially Trigonometry.
We can now say that billiards is the country's premier past-time for men and women. In these places, we meet all sorts of people. We mingle with strangers and get to know them. We meet various people with the same passion in playing this game. So, all you people out there, what else are you doing?
