birch shaft

i was looking for dealers in canada that might have some tight grain maple and found a guy that had some 150 year old river salvaged birch with very tight grain. he told me that a local had used the birch for shafts. he sent me a sample to give it a try. i have a couple more months to get it turned down. just wondering if anyone ever saw of used a birch shaft? thanks chuck

I used a birch shaft once & it worked out great, gave a stiff & rigid hit. It was very lightweight, though, and was tough to get a correct balance. It performed no better than maple but was tough to get a good balance so I never used it again.
