Which pool halls are the best pool halls in Birmingham for some action?
thanks,
JoeyA

Poppa's Billiards in Pelham about 20 min. south of Birmingham

Bumpers in Hoover about 10 min. south of Birmingham

actually stay away from the downtown part of Birmingham really no action, and good luck unless your packing hardware with 30 round clips.

Bumpers is a great place, and if you are in there on the right night there will be some action. If you want the best just ask around and I'm sure he'll show up.;)

And like Craig said, stay away from downtown unless you are packing.......for real.

Joey,

You already know everyone in AL that plays, but you can get some action. PM me if interested. A friend of mine was telling me he would like to match up with you in one pocket the other day.

I also know you have played Harold MacAbee and I sure he would like to give it another go. When are you coming up?

I was in Birminham last summer and had all the action I could handle at Poppa G's in Pelham, a suburb of Birmingham. Late at night on a couple of nights, road players came in and were playing $1000-$2000 sets. Lots of action and the people were really nice too!

Harold is out of my league and apparently so is the other straight shooting blonde headed kid since I lose a thousand to him without him having to really try.

Craig, I appreciate the heads-up about the downtown area. There's always a place in any nice size city where you can run into trouble. I avoid trouble whenever I can and will probably avoid the downtown area.

BigdogBret. I doubt if I will be playing any thousand dollar sets but it is nice to see that others have found action there,

IBA7467, I was just looking at the plane fares recently because of the cost of gasoline and noticed that Southwest Airlines has one hell of a deal for flights to and from NOLA and Birmingham. Instead of flying all over the U.S. playing in tournaments, I might opt to pop in when I can catch a cheap flight. $29 each way doesn't sound too bad for me. :)

If I head up that way, I'll let you know. If I sneak in, you can just look at my cue case or cue to identify me. :D
Thanks,
JoeyA

Drive up to Huntsville while your in the area and I may come out and play a little. There's a descent weekly tournament at Shooters in Huntsville. Pm if interested.

Is Tim O. still playing? He sure did hit 'em REAL straight the one time I tried him some cheap one pocket ($40/game) a few yrs ago and every other time I've seen him play. Real cool guy too!

TO is a real nice guy, but isn't playing much right now. I haven't talked to him in over a month. I believe he has moved away.

iba7467,

If anybody in that area gets bored enough and wants to play some $20/game on a great playing bar table here in Meridian, MS, just let me know. I'll guarantee $300 or 5 hrs no matter who shows up EVEN. I know it's not much but $300 should cover all the necessities for the trip if I lose it all.

Tim O blistered me in the U.S. Amateur Championship tournament. I guess I'm just getting old.

I don't knock action, but with TO gone I would have to agree. There might be some argument, but I doubt anyone would bet much against it. Everyone in Bham has a job now, so everyone's game has dropped 1-2.5 balls.

LOL...I sure didn't like my one pocket action against him either. If there was any inkling of an offensive shot for him, he'd fire it in. And then proceed to run out even when all the other balls were above the headstring. Granted, I can barely hold a stick playing one pocket, but I was very impressed w/ his offensive game. Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to see much of his defense over our 2-3 hr match, lol.

Jerry Olivier brought a player to Bham last year and matched up with TO playing one pocket.

Game 1 - Tim needs 7 and the other guy needs 4. Tim makes a champion quality bank shot and leaves the cue ball frozen on his opponent's rail uptable. Tim makes a sellout shot at about Mach 1 1/2 and runs out (5 ball run).

Game 2 - Tim breaks, makes a ball, runs 8 and out (15 consecutive balls).

Game 3 - Opponent breaks. Tim makes a bank through traffic and runs 8 and out (23 consecutive balls)

The only time I have seen better one pocket play was Efren beating Alex and Jason Miller at DCC.
