Bit for Cutting Shafts

Tony,
I tried something similar and it kicked my part backwards, are you using
a spur driver when you are cutting ??

Tony, the good thing about this type of bit is that there is a lot of "side" blade, so when it gets dull you can raise or lower the cutter slightly to a fresh section again. The ugly part of these is the spiral. The spindle:feed ratio has to be perfect to avoid the spiral "climbing", which basically means the wood will follow the rotation of the cutter by climbing up or down the bit. On very thin "clean-up" cuts, I have had results similar to you. But be careful if you try any deeper cuts.
