Okay guys..

I have a Black Boar cue as my primary playing cue. Love it, hits fantastic. Hears my dilema.

I need to replace the tip on it and want to keep it like it came from Tony originally.

On Black Boar's website they talk about the critical importance of the right tip. But don't tell you what type.

I have sent numerous email's to them with no reply.

The big question....

Does anybody know what Tony uses on tips

Or does anybody have experience with Black Boar replacements
 
Put whatever tip you like on it. Whatever you think plays good.

I know I played with Mark's new black boar shaft a while back and I'm pretty sure it had a triangle on it....but again, there is no rule. There is no "right" tip. Put the tip that you like best.
 
I believe Tony still uses triangle tips. When he talks about using the right tip he is referring to the fact that he only chooses about 10-15 tips out of the box of 40.
 
Both of the gentlemen above are correct.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Tony's shop...and it's amazing to see how many Triangle tips are lying around...that didn't meet his requirements. He may use 10 out of a box, total.

If you are in love with the way your cue played with the original tip, a solid Triangle is the way to go.

That said, though...you may come to find out you'd like a Kamui, older Moori Medium, or similiar. I've gone through a fair amount of cues (stop laughing, ya'll...those days are long gone!!!)...and have found that Triangles, Kamui Mediums, and OLDER Moori Mediums are my personal favorites. I've had one of each on Black Boar cues I've owned...and they all played great.

anyone know how he chooses them? I've heard sorting into floaters and sinkers, looking at the backs of the tips, biting them. In my experience, none of these methods have been reliable, you just don't know until you put it on and start cutting
