Black Ferrules?

I'm sure it is just regional (probably due to the local cuemaker's preference), but any insight as to why Black Ferrules seem to be making a come-back?

I had "Little Al" make a cue with a black ferrule a few years ago and he told me that several people started requesting black ferrules when they saw the cue in his shop.

I put a canvas base black phenolic on my playing sneaky pete. The younger crowd of players like it because the canvas texture on the side of the ferrule looks like carbon fiber.

Everyone appears to be ignoring the elephant in the room. The only company that made white cotton fibre ferrules burned to the ground. There are no more being made.

I for one am not about to put a $3 ferrule on a bar cue. Repair people are looking for an inexpensive ferrule mtrl. to use on low-end cues. The black ferrules fit that bill, they are cheap.

Black Water Buffalo ferrules had some popularity a few years ago but it soon faded. Players were having difficulty adjusting to the color.

CMs may be scrambling here before too long. Decent ferrule mtrl. is getting hard to come by. Aegis is not available in rod form, LBM is on the ropes due to manufacturing problems and some of the new stuff they are trying to push is too soft. I'm open to realistic options.
