Black Kamui SS Tips

So the last year or two I've been cycling through a variety of tips to see what I like best.

Only one of the tips that I tried has been particularly bad and all the rest had some positive and negatives. So this week I decided my playing shaft was due for a new tip and yesterday morning I poked around through my collection of different tips and found, all by its lonesome, one last black Kamui SS. This was the last tip out of a batch of perhaps 10 that I had bought many years ago and I recall liking the tip quite a bit. So on it went.

I really like it.

So today I was thinking about buying a few more and note, that now, there are also black Kamui SS *clear* tips available. Forgetting the hype about flatness and taking the adhesive better I was wondering if any of you had played with both the plain black Kamui SS and the newer clear version and if so, what your impressions were concerning playing characteristics. Or maybe there is no difference. Thoughts?

Tank you.
Tank you berry much.

Looks cool, seems to play exactly the same, as far as I can tell.
Only flaw to the clear is that it makes the tip seem sort of “tall” to me in a way that a solid pad doesn’t seem to.
Visual thing I guess.

The clear pad is not flat and needs to be sanded flat. They should both be the exact same leather, but the clear is obviously going to be taller. Acoustically they sound different.

Yes. A few years ago I bought into SS and had a Black SS put on a Predator z2, after a week it went lopsided. Reshaped it, went lopsided again. Had it replaced, he used a clear, it never went lopsided but I had to babysit shaping.

Regardless of patience, for those few months with the clear the numbing effect became unbearable. That said, if you like as little feedback as possible, you'll love them.

Try the Ultraskin SS - no issues and less expensive

I had the Kamui Black SS tips and liked them, but they constantly glazed over so I cut them off and replaced them with the UltraSkin black softs, not SS, and that is what I use on all my cues now.

You can get 10 of them for less than 2 Kamui tips.

Kamui

I agree with HE about the glazing issue. I took his advice and tried the ultra skins and I love them so far. Holds chalk really well!

I played with a kamui soft for awhile and switched to the clear. I hated it. It might be a mental thing with me but it just felt very "pingy or clicky". I am very sensitive to light and the clear disc seemed to reflect a lot of light that really bugged me when down on some shots. I ended up covering the clear disc with a black sharpie marker to solve that issue.

Overall I switched to the Ultraskin softs due to the constant maintenance and cost of the Kamui. They just didn't seem to last that long for me.

I recently got a pred 314 shaft and had all intentions of changing out the default predator victory tip (med) that came with it but I actually kind of like it so I am sticking with it for awhile. I may try an ultraskin medium once the predator tip needs replaced.

I bought a Predator 314-2 FAT shaft blank several years ago and whatever tip came on it sucked. That is the first shaft that I changed to the Kamui Black SS which I later cut off and changed to Ultraskin.

Thanks to all for the feedback on the Kamuis

On the US -- tried them and not a fan. Different strokes and all that.

Played Kamui Soft tip and liked it but way to much maintenance, reshaping and all. Switched to Ultraskin Medium and found my home. No drop off in cue ball movement and English, PLUS no maintenance great tip;
