about 2 days ago when i was shooting i felt the top 6-8 inches fell dirty and not smooth. when i examined the shaft i noticed 2 1-inch long black lines and about a dozen very small black lines no bigger than 1/8 of an inch. i bought it off a friend about 2 weeks ago and it is a year old but when i bought it the shaft was smooth almost like new. anybody know what the problem?

sounds like its been shot with while resting on the black plastic pocket liners ...just my guess...

It's most likely scuffs from the pocket liners, remove the scuffs with a cotton towel with just a touch of windex sprayed on it and clean the shaft in a long stroking motion-like your milking it.

just tried the dab of windex on a cloth towel and worked great; shaft is clear of lines and smooth . i was worried that the cheap case a have was damaging my shaft.

Is it a Predator shaft? The black lines could be the shaft delaminating. This is the only defect Predator will replace a shaft for. Please post a picture. I recently had a shaft replaced with no issue. If this is the case, PM me if you need help getting it replaced.

from the pocket liner

mine is normally on my break shaft

I use windex to clean my shaft

lol maybe thats why i have a blue baby hahaha

only funny if you know the joke

What kind of shaft is it? I had a very cheap shaft used to take a beating and had scratches all along the shaft. Dirt and chalk got into the scratches and they looked black. If they're jet black then that isn't the problem. I'd say they were from the pocket liners.

A friend of mine also got lines down the shaft from her rings. She had one on her thumb and that made black marks on the shaft, also.

yes it is a predator shaft. i tried the windex solution this morning and the black lines came off but that area felt kind of dry. i compared it to a new joss shaft and noticed that it wasnt as smooth. right now i only have my iphone camera so im not sure if it would really show the state the shaft is in.

would it be best to take it to a billiards repair shop to find out the issue. i live in sacramento and i believe there are a few around here.

The black lines are from when you stroke over a plastic pocket liner and your cue rubs against it. It happens a lot during a standard 9-ball break from the side. Your stroke must be very flat(a good thing, generally speaking).

Basically, your cue is rubbing against the top of the pockets when you stroke.

Might be unrelated but I noticed on some shafts my wedding ring would create lines along the shaft.

Have an authorized Predator dealer look at it. They will tell you if it is delamination. Predator replaces this for free, you only pay to ship the shaft in to them. I just went through the process and can help you if you send me pictures or need help filling out the paperwork. PM me if you need help.
