ok, i was watching one of my old pool tapes, from the 1998 ESPN Ultimate Challenge down in Orlando. noticed they were playing on the black Gold Crown. thought it looked awesome, especially with that green cloth.

anyway, just wondering how the Black Matte Gold Crown compares to the Rosewood Gold Crown that i have? is there any difference in the two as far as playability goes? the balls did seem to have a little bit different sound when they fell into the pocket than the one i have now.

It may have had gully or drop pockets. Whichever is opposite of what you have. That may have given you the different sound.

Your Rosewood GC in good condition and a 9-foot? I would trade my black and chrome GC for a rosewood one in a heartbeat.

pockets for gc

rc designs is a company that makes aftermarket pockets for all tables, i wish i had the info for contacting them, They have styles from plain leather to fancy designer pockets, my only gripe is that i have seen them at the bca show is that any pockets i have seen never fit as many balls in the pockets as the original GC pockets, hope this helps, i did try to buy some leather inserts and contemplated lining my pockets, well just to let ya know, after eyeing it up and trying to figure out what to do, you guessed it, mine are still black rubber,

Black marks

I don't think the finish is what makes the difference. The difference is I, II, III, IV, ...The pockets...and the accustics of the room your in...

The older the better from what I am told...I just had my 20+ year old GC II redone...Aritmus rubber...(plays awesome)......I stripped and refinished all the cream colored wood (it was beat up)...stained it black, and put a clear coat on it... The table underneath is a '"tank"...I can't imagine the table will ever wear out...

The only other thing I am looking for is "Leather" drop pockets that will fit in a GC...I hate the rubber inserts....That would definatley change the sound of the ball going in the pocket...(and I will stop getting black rubber marks on the balls and shaft)...

I've thouht about taking the current pockets to a Leather Magician and having him cut the top part off and attach leather uppers...or something along that line.
What I did to eliminate the black marks was use left over Simonis cloth from when I covered the table and put it on top of the plastic pocket. I cut it to size and used double sided mounting tape. No more black marks plus now you can concentrate on the shot and not think about what is going to happen to your cue.
