Blast from the Past today??

I used to shot a lot back between 1984 - about 1992.
I had a McDermott D 19 and a David Howard Meucci DH-4E.
Both were different but shot solid. I wanted to put my older cues away and save them. So In my last year I bought 2 newer cues and never did like them. when shotting at home I kept going back to the older cues, I sold the newer cues. (I had a McDermott Black widow cue and a 97-25 Meucci.) both of these did not feel as solid.
I had a house fire in 2007 and lost both cues.
Now to the Question I would of course like to buy my older models back over time for the right price, but on the newer cues I would like something soild hitting and along the same line as what i shot with. I have shot with Vicking years ago and they felt like balsa wood, cue tecs feel the same way to me.
I did shoot with a 200$ lacasi about 2 years agao and it felt ok, but... I also want something that will hold up over time in playability and $$$$.
I have heard Lacasi are made over seas and standards are lower as far a quality unit to unit.

I am willing to spend 200-400$ for a desent cue that speaks to me when I see it.
Also willing to listen to todays shafts verses the predot shafts of the older units. (I used to really bow my shaft on a break, I dont know if that is really a good or bad thing i never had a teacher, but I was always told a Had one HE%% of a break.. another long story) ((New Cues I couldnt break with as well with the control))

Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for any and all help and or information.

Welcome to the forum.

There are many cues that would likely satisfy you, but I have to ask...why not shoot with the vintage ones?

Very sad you lost them in the fire, but you can easily replace them.

I am still shooting with my 70's JOSS since 1985 and have tried to "retire" it many times. I have numerous cues now, but that is my best cue and the one I like to shoot with the most. I also have a D Series McDermott that I have had since the eighties and really like it a lot.

You could get a used custom or even a new custom in that price range.

Yes, the Lucasi are imports....many cues are imports....many of them quite good in fact.

.

Personally I lean toward JOSS (US made), so I would encourage you to have a look at them.

Doc is a Joss lover and there is nothing wrong with that. Joss makes a fine cue.
As far as the quality of Lucasi cues i have had the same one for over 3 years now and it's just as good as the day I bought it. So don't be afraid of Lucasi quality, they are just fine. Not all Chinese made cues are equal. You still get what you pay for.

Nothing wrong with the Lucasi. I hear good things about them. I am not critical of imports like some. I have numerous imports myself.

I think the best thing is for the poster to maybe get some ideas and then try some of them out.
