Blue Book inaccuracies?

I friend of mine let me borrow his 1st edition Blue Bool and I liked it so much I went out and got a current 3rd edition for myself.

Reading through it I noticed at least one piece of incorrect information relating to Ginacues.

In the Blue Book it states that Ernie used the script "GINACUE" logo from 1961-70 and went to the block "GINACUE" logo after 1970.

I know this is incorrect. Ernie went to the block lettering well before 1970. I know this because I am the original owner of a block lettered Domino Gina and I purchased the cue way before 1970, around 1964ish.

Ernie himself has identified the cue as one of his first 100 and estimates he produced it in 63-64. I've spoken with collectors and dealers of fine custom cues and it is pretty common knowledge that the block lettering logo was put on Ginacues well before 1970.

I'm not slamming the Blue Book. Anyone interested in cues should have a copy. And with all the information I'm not shocked that some of it may not be quite right especially since so much of it dates back quite a way and some of it is the kind of stuff that cannot be documented per se. But I am a little surprised that being the third edition this inaccuracy is still there since it seems the date of the switch to block lettering is pretty widely known, and it got me to wondering what other incorrect information may exist.

I'm not that familiar with a lot of makers and was wondering if anyone else familiar with other makers know of similar incorrect information contained in the Blue Book.

I'd also like to hear from collectors and dealers of custom cue as to how much the Blue Book enters into it when determining a cues age or value. Is it considered the bible or is it more of a guide used as one of several references that is used to augment experience and personal knowledge.

Right About That

Right about the lettering inaccuracy in the Blue Book. I had Ernie do some work on my 1964 Domino. He remembers exactly when he made it. Interesting to listen to him talk about the different materials he used back in the day. He authenticated the vintage on the receipt and pictures, which was greatly appreciated.

Pretty much all the information in the blue book is supplied by the cuemaker. If it says that it was told to them by Ernie.
