i've played with both blue diamond and elkmaster a lot for snooker as those are the two most popular tips for snooker. bd's are very similar to elkmaster, both are chrome tanned, on the softer side, and has the blue chalk on the outside. IMO, bd's are a bit harder than elk, but not a whole lot. but talk to the snooker crowd in england and you'll find varying opinions on which tip is harder/softer, more consistent, etc. i could certainly believe that bd's are selected elkmasters. i have heard that they are manufactured by tweetens for brunwick. i have a bunch of bd's in the snooker sizes, i was looking for some 14mm to try on a pool cue. i've never tried a bd for pool, only snooker, so i can't really say how they are for pool
