Blue Elf Tips

I take the tail stock with live center and a concave end, while the tip is help on..., press the tail stock against the tip.....compressing it, then cut away.

As does almost everyone. Shaping the tip, not trimming it to the ferrule is where this little jig really helps. No fear of the razor catching and pulling under, maybe, cutting ones finger. How do you shape the tip with the live center pressed against it?

maybe Im wrong but I didn't notice him asking about shaping the tip.... but cutting it even with the ferrule without the tip coming apart....
and that was what I was commenting on...

"I have a ? on how to cut the Blue Elf Tips down even with the ferrule.. I cut 2 down with the 1/4 carbite bit..& they come apart between the 4th & 5th layer leaving the 5th layer just on the ferrule.. I really dont like cutting tips down with a razor blades on the ferrule? Thanks" Dave

one would be stupid to even think they can shape a tip with the live center attached on.....

like I said I was commenting on the question posed at hand by the OP.

I'm not calling you stupid....just whoever would try it.......
no flame war here please.
it would be totally uncalled for.
