Since we are all tuned into our vision I’ll share an experience that might help someone. Pool league was where I really noticed it.
About 8-10 months ago my vision had deteriorated to the point that at age 49 I had to get corrective lenses for distance in addition to reading glasses I already used. I got contacts and glasses. I just figured suck it up, growing old ain’t pretty.
Well months went by and I went in for a regular physical and one thing that showed up was I had developed diabetes and my blood sugar was very high. I immediately changed my diet and got my blood sugar down in a good range. As I was doing this my eyes grew steadily worse until one night at pool league I could not see to play even though I had the previous week. I went in to work the following day and the only way I could see the computer screen was to wear two pairs of reading glasses. My vision was deteriorating by the day and not only that my prescription glasses made things worse!
I went to the doctor and explained my situation and of course this is common symptom of diabetes. The explanation was the lens in the eye being mostly water will reach equilibrium with the blood. When I was fitted with glasses and contacts months earlier my blood sugar was very high and had been so for quit some time and my lens had reached equilibrium with that high blood sugar and had changed shape. Now with my blood sugar returning to normal so was my lens. I was given some temporary contacts until I everything stabilized.
I went in today and my vision has returned to normal of over a year ago. As of today I need no correction for distance and only a slight correction for reading. Now I can see all that low carb food I’m eating.
