You have excellent taste in cues!
I had a fun weekend around Scruggs, Cochran, and Frey cues.
I played with Billy Stephen's Scruggs this weekend. It is battle-worn, the buttcap is cracked in two. It is a smaller diameter handle and shafts that are maybe 11mm...and it is the best hitting cue I've ever played with. I couldn't believe it. I've never picked up a cue that felt so natural right from the start. Of course, it probably had some of Billy's excellent play rubbed off on it after all these years. It was made in 2000.
I also got to see Billy's ORIGINAL JOSS from when Dan Janes, Bill Stroud, and Tim Scruggs were in the garage. It doesn't even have JOSS engraved on the butt it is so old. I think he said he bought it new, out of the garage, in 1968 for $125.00. Great, great cue.
I saw my friend George this weekend, who took me to Timmy's shop the one time I went. George is good friends with Tim and even put up the hand rails in Tim's house for Tim's wife when that was needed. George has 26 gorgeous Scrugg's cues in his collection, and one of them is an ARCHIE that Tim gifted him for putting in those rails. Old friends, there. George was matched up in a one pocket battle, but after finishing he showed me his latest 4 point beautie out of the Scrugg's shop. Tim and Mike made some gorgeous cues, Lord.
Lastly, my friend Clay was out with his ebony and ivory "tuxedo" Bob Frey cue that looks and hits as good as anything you could want. Just an amazing, amazing cue.
All in all, a fun cue weekend for me.
