New Bob Frey Custom
Gave the cue its first table time yesterday. 14 hours of one pocket. It shoots lights out, well until about the 11th hour... then I forgot how to pull the trigger!
From an aesthetic view, the Woim described best as the cue has a "simple elegance." The rosewood is very beautiful as well, though it doesn't show like the maple in the pictures. The veneers are jump off the cue. This is also the only Frey cue I've seen that doesn't have the "F" stamped on the butt cap, instead it is signed "Bob Frey" between points. This was a request of mine, as I associate the stamped initials with Tim Scruggs. The brass rings are very simple, but look really really nice. Maybe I've just caught the olympic fever, and I like seeing the golden colored rings on the cue.
The cue weights 19 oz, haven't weighed myself... but it seems like it weighs a tad more as it just feels a bit heftier. As with all Frey cues I've played with, the cue is very neutrally balanced. This is what I prefer, I don't like steel jointed front heavy cues. I have 2 Frey SPs, a recently made ebony one, and one from the early 90s with piloted true sneaky joint. Of all 3 cues, the custom by far has the stiffest hit, and best feedback. Both shafts of are of very high quality. It came with sniper tips.
This cue is an all around winner. I was very nervous with the style of cue that I wanted, afraid that I would just end up with a really fancy sneaky pete. That did not happen, and I am very happy with this purchase. I don't know what Bob Frey's current wait time is on a custom cue. When I ordered my cue I was told it would be done it three months. It was finished and delivered two weeks early. I have no concerns on the delivery time as long as I get a kick ass cue... but just want to bring it up because so many cue maker posers are lurking around claiming a great cue in 90 days or less. Unfortunately for them they didn't apprentice with Tim Scruggs, and generally don't deliver close to stated delivery date. Note, this is only select two or so... I've heard nothing but good things about Michael Webb's cues. In addition I have all my repair done by Dick Neighbors, and he is a class act.
Oh and yes, I hate wraps.
