Bogie's in Houston

I played at Bogie's in Houston today. The table is 12 Foot BCE and it had 860 Simonis on it. The pockets seamed tighter than any table I have ever played on including drsnookers table. I still managed three breaks in the teens. I had allot of fun. If ever you are in the Houston area Bogie's is a place to play snooker.

Tighter than mine huh? Wow, I might have to go check it out. Too bad they put simonis on it though....

I think the Simonis played okay. Better than Caspers. If the pockets aren't tighter than yours then it must be softer jaws. If you made any contact with any part of the jaws no matter how slight or how slow it was not going. It might be the pocket shelf. Bottom line is the pockets are unforgiving. Simonis doesn't require the upkeep.

That's a shame they put a Simonis cloth on that snooker table at Bogies.

When I was invited to play there back in April 2006 they had a proper snooker cloth on it, although it wasn't in good condition as it hadn't been brushed in a very long while.

The WPBA pro Kim White invited me to come and play snooker there, and yes the pockets were very tight so I only managed a top break in the 50s.

The pool player Nick Varner was also there at the time and sat down and watched me for a while. I spoke to him afterwards and he was incredibly complimentary about my play - he actually said to me that he hadn't seen anyone shoot as straight as me since he watched Ronnie O'Sullivan play! :) What a really nice gentleman!

I had a great time there though, and I was told I would always be welcome back there to play snooker anytime.

If you see Kim White tell her that the snooker player Alan Morris says "hello"! :) She is such a lovely lady and a good laugh! :)

Best wishes.

Alan.

Will do! Not sure when I'll be in the neighborhood though. Kinda pointless to drive an hour to play snooker someplace, if I can just hop outa bed and play....

I have to believe it has something to do with maintenance. The proper snooker cloth takes some TLC that most places aren't willing to give. I would like to see a snooker club in houston with well groomed tables.

Yes you are correct that a snooker cloth does require a little more attention, but it's literally just a 10-15 minute job that must be done daily.

Just brush the table in the direction of the nap from the baulk area to the black spot, then get a spare piece of the cloth wrapped around the brush and run it over again which helps bed down the nap and takes off any excess dust on the cloth.

Then a couple of times a week run an iron over the cloth in the direction of the nap, but not so hot that it leaves an impression on the table that looks like a tennis court at Wimbledon. You see that in so many snooker clubs in Britain! lol

Best wishes.

Alan.
