Bonus Ball...

This by no means a knock on what they are trying to pull together but anytime I see a press release about WPBL I can hear a toilet flush in my head... AS in cash going down the drain...

I know Larry is a true believer and has sunk thousands and thousands into it now... I've met Larry and I like Larry and I hope he succeeds. I just keep thinking back to Galveston when those promoters didn't pay heed to people in the industry who had experience...

Aside from the pros under contract and Nathan, who does have industry experience, are the people he has surrounded himself with from the industry and have they been vetted??? Or is industry experience something not relevant to the WPBL?

Bonus Ball All The Best

Chris, I too worry about Bonus Ball.
They got off to a rocky start.
I hope that they make it.
Pool needs all the help it can get and Larry is trying.
Kuduos to Larry and Nathan as well as his sponsors.

Let's all try and support.

Take Care, Barney

Sometimes industry experience is a straightjacket. "No that won't work because...., No we tried that before...., etc"

Remember the movie "Money Ball"?

IMHO it would be better for Bonus Ball to go after a totally new audience. I certainly wouldn't make experienced players like AZBers my target market.

A new target audience may indeed require out of the box thinking... Was only wondering if the people at bonus ball were Vegas insiders, had TV experience or were going thru the school of hard knocks along the way...

I think at one point Jim Wych was under contract to provide consulting but that was several years ago and I do not think that was followed thru on.. I was simply wondering who was behind the scenes....

Which led me to wonder if this wasn't their 40 years in the wilderness based on the press release that said they had just gotten back underway on the arena....

it's a challenge to go to the entertainment capital of the world and compete

I agree, it's a challenge to go to the entertainment capital of the world and compete with an entertainment product. Atlanta would have been a great choice, and I offered Dallas Texas as a city of great potential as well.

We have many soda/beer/liquor/energy drink companies that may embrace something new like Bonus Ball, and also a "mini Hollywood" in Las Colinas (just west of Dallas, east of Ft. Worth) that produces a large variety of movies, and TV Shows.

I received some confidential information today that sounded positive for the Bonus Ball Project in Vegas, for the players sake I hope it works out.

Dallas was my 2nd choice for a City for BB and it was a close 2nd.

I lived in and out of Vegas for a hair over 20 years, I spent lots of time in pool rooms there and the annual tourneys that come and go, as well as being a biz man there as well. And knowing many many biz owners from all walks of life, casino owners, real estate agents, day labor's, drunks, strippers, tradesmen, construction, car sales man etc. I KNOW Vegas.

You cant compete with the strip, being 2 miles from the strip is like being 2000 miles, it dont matter. if your not in the middle of the action or have a billion or 2 you cant compete(and even hats not a lock), BB will get no gate from anyone visiting LV. I remember when they brought Pro Hockey league to Vegas at the Santa Fe way north on the 95 back in 1992(now its in the middle of the city, back then it was way out of town) we would go there to sweat a hocky game once in a while to take a break from the pool room, it was empty. It was also free, the video poker machines there did well, but not hockey, after 3? years they pulled out of that market. Things change, Vegas is bigger but what hasnt changed is the hold the Strip puts on people.

I cant count the number of times friends would come to town from somewhere and promis to come visit. 2 weeks later i'd get the "i'm sorry i didnt call you" call. they get caught up and unless they need $$ or a couch to sleep on they never show up. That aint changed in years, the exception is people who come to vegas and are not going to the Strip then its like anywhere else, but nobody goes to the strip and does something else.

I still hope BB works out, Atlanta, Dallas are 2 spots where pool is strong, your not competing with billionaires for customers and the cost of doing biz is reasonable. Sure the glamour of saying "BB live from Vegas" might help it sell 4% more but that dont off-set the added costs(what ever the real numbers are). the Vegas allure got Larry too IMO. I like and respect him lots, to be clear but man Vegas causes the smartest people to make bad decisions.

best

From the BB website news page:

After a three month delay, construction resumed earlier this week at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Various issues arose from the fraudulent practices of the prior crew which halted construction back in January of 2013. During this setback, the WPBL had to secure new permits, hire a new contractor, and resolve legal issues resulting from the illegal actions of the original builder.

The WPBL’s legal team has vetted the new contractor, and verified the validity of their business license in the State of Nevada and the City of Las Vegas. As a result, construction of the WPBL Arena is anticipated to be finished in early May. An official launch date for the season will be announced upon moving closer to the completion of the arena. WPBL President Larry Chiborak said “Our entire staff would like to thank our league’s players and the billiards community for their continued patience and support during this unexpected delay. We are confident we have secured a professional team of tradesmen to complete the arena and foresee the start of the WPBL season as soon as possible”.

Assuredly, this delay will not inhibit the WPBL season, as the entire 26 weeks will be played. The revised schedule will be posted on WPBLTV.com as soon as a start date is announced.

The WPBL staff has utilized the construction delay to evaluate the best practices of promoting the league worldwide. During this time, the WPBL has been in negotiations with several major players in the entertainment industry, including international television syndication, online and state gaming industry leaders, and major corporate sponsorship from outside the industry. The staff has also been working to establish a network for promotions through over a thousand of the major pool rooms across North America. Although nothing is yet final, the WPBL is faced with many opportunities that will help to secure a bright future for the league, players and fans.

With these additions also comes the change of the WPBL website, now updated to WPBLTV.com. As opposed to the previous ".tv" domain, the new ".com" will ensure wider recognition with international audiences. Although as of now, the WPBL.tv website remains up, moving forward all updates, videos and live streams can only be found on the WPBLTV.com website.

Please continue to follow the league for updates and announcements:

I'm still looking forward to watching and hope they do great.
