Book for the mental game?

lose the ID!

"Point The Way", by the Monk. It took my game from a c level to the A level in 1 month because the was I was thinking was all wrong. Almost like he was watching me and wrote the book...lol But really a good book on how our minds can work against ourselves. I lost that "ID" thing right after I read it and never looked back and that was 18 yrs ago. Highly recommended.

What am I missing here? I see people recommend this tennis book to pool players alot. Somebody please fill me in. How does a tennis book help your pool game?

Look up David blackjack Sapolis,he's a member in here, also got some videos on youtube, great guy you can call and talk to him.He has written some good stuff on the mental game.Just do a search in here or google him.and the tennis book is all about the inner/mental game and it's a lot easier to read that a psychology 101 text book.(Yes I read one in college):boring2:

> On the Gallwey book, what you do is read the book, and substitute the word "pool" for most instances where "tennis" is used.

You will find that in a LOT of situations, the mindset for playing truly high-level tennis and pool are exactly the same,as far as things like dealing with an opponent that is catching a gear, you struggling,or catching a gear yourself.

Earl told me that himself.

I would recommend this one,the Fancher book mentioned in this thread,Point The Way,and the one no one has mentioned yet,Zen in the Art of Archery.

The Phil Capelle offering,A Mind For Pool,is also QUITE good. Tommy D.

Zen golf

GREAT BOOK____ZEN GOLF>>BY DR.JOSEPH PARENT<< MASTERING THE MENTAL GAME, Also the INNER GAME OF TENNIS ,by TIMOTHY GALLWEY--The classic guide to the mental side of peak perfomance

Remember that a book is just a guide, similar to an aiming system. When all said and done, you must develop a touch and feel for the table.

The mental game is similar. You must learn to block out what is not important and focus on what is. You must learn to play the game as a whole. Not one shot or one game or one set, but a lot of small steps that eventually make the whole picture.

Consistency, composure, confidence, determination, trust, belief are just a few of the qualities that must be developed. Books are a great start, but be willing to listen to your inner self. This will come with time.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.

Read it and you'll find out what your missing.....I've read many golf magazines to gain helpful information on many areas directly related to pool and the mental game.
