Books and videos are not designed for practice!

There is a "disconnect" between billiard books/videos and the practice table!

It is difficult to practice just "certain shots" from videos or books. And many times players want to practice shots from many different books or videos. As players become more skilled, they may no longer need to practice certain shots from a book.

So players at some point will not want to practice *every* shot/drill from a particular book/video. But will want to practice a few shots from this book, a few shots from that video, etc.

My suggestion to book writers and video producers....

Offer an optional set of diagrams of the shots contained in the book/video printed on unbound 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper which can be placed in a 3 ring binder. Then the player can place the shots he wants to practice in the 3 ring binder (in the order he wants to practice them) and leave out what he does not need to practice. And make the table graphic as large as possible to fit on page. Something like this (I had to make my own diagrams)...

not cost effective.

don't be lazy......take the book to the practice table, open it up, look at it, set up the shot, and put the book down.

It is quite silly of me to want to take just *one* 3 ring binder to the pool hall to practice the shots I have learned...

In the future, I'll take 3 different pool books, my TV, VCR, various videos, etc.

On second thought, maybe I'll stick to my 3 ring binder.

when you have time to practice the stuff that its three different books and various videos in one practice session then let me know.

everyone wants things on a silver platter........first someone puts all or alot of their knowledge into writing, and sells it pretty damn cheap compared to what lessons would cost............

now people want it to be printed up exactly how they like it......

ya know.......you will have to do some work on your own.

I've already done this. My books are made with a plastic binding comb and you can lay it flat on the table. The diagrams are large enough, and I have many displayed at my web site.

I tend to agree that books are not a great format for a practice session. So, I have made a table template and have been copying the shots from The Pro Book onto individual sheets. I also write up specific shots that I have seen/learned from other sources. This allows me to take out a few and use them on the table. Other benefits include the learning that takes place when you write them out, and you have a place to write notes regarding the shot without messing up a book. I would not pay for these sheets, it is easy and cheap to make them as needed.

I got a folder with photocopied drills from various books that I take to the poolhall. Were I to carry all the books these drills come from, I'd have to walk in not only with my stick but an extra suitcase.

I also have a bunch of blank table diagrams that I downloaded from Bob Jewett's site. If there is a particular shot I intend to practice or need to remember, I'll fill it in myself.
