Need info on Boring clear acrylic rod for window

I am building a cue that I would like to use the clear acrylic rod in the cue....the rod is solid and when attempting to bore the acrylic begins to melt.

Anyone familiar with the procedure???

What can I do??

Thanks,
Scott

When I was making prototype parts with acrylic, low speeds and sharp tools.
To the finish to go clear , we used a small propane torch , and put it near the surface for a short period of time. It nearly but not quite, melts the surface and it goes completely clear, Or else you polish with the various grit papers and finally with rough or buffing compound. Propane is quicker on od stuff for sure, small blind holes are more difficult.

Take smaller cuts, slow down the feed rate, and use a coolant.

Better yet, this is available in tube form. I've used it before. The inside is nearly imposible to get looking right if you bore it but using the tube it's easy enough to turn the outside to size and polish out.

In a previous job I have used oxy-acetylene torches to "flame polish" edges. Works well, but I never did it in a hole. Very quick passes so the material doesn't have time to deform.
