Boston Billiard Club in Boston

So I'm now back from Boston from a business trip. While there I went to Boston Billiard Club (just google their page) and first off it was impressive when I first went inside and the lights were low. First glance i seen approximately 50 9' gold crown tables, centennial balls, and a lot of players.

I thought to myself wow this is quite nice. I tried to find a game without warming up to get some action but it was about 40 tables full of bangers banging 8 ball around. Two people playing One Pocket and then 1 person just shooting balls that appeared to play C'ish. So my hopes of getting someone to gamble were slim. I asked the lone guy and the conversation was as follows:

*the blue is me. The green is him*

"Hey you shoot pretty well. Want to play for something?"
"What do you play?"
"I play 9 ball generally"
"Well My favorite game is 1 pocket!"
"Ok well it's not mine but I'll go ahead and play anyway.. what do you want to play for?"

Then he acted like this was a lot of money..

"Well when I normally play I play for 50 a game!"
"Ok sure lets play"
*stutters* "uh.. ok well thats what I play for on nights I feel like gambling but I dont feel like it tonight"

Then he pusses out and naturally doesnt play. Another guy basically does the same thing getting scared and saying he could call up "some of his pro friends to come down" while taking out his phone and I said ok sure call them up. He says well how much would you play for? I said 2-300 a set and immediately follow up with "but you're going to say they only play for thousands and it's not enough etc. etc." He starts to nod and I just walk away and say whatever. Stupid nits everywhere. Overall no action just a bunch of banging pus*ies.

The Quality!

So I figure since I took a cab here I may as well play some. Thats when it got horribly worse.

I chose the table and the lights were turned on. It looked like people vomited, peed, spilled drinks, ate, had sex, and maybe even slept on those tables. The tables rolled off so bad i shot a fairly slow rail shot and it hit the rail 3 times and still went in. The rails were as dead as you could imagine and you couldnt even rely on them for shape. The felt itself was so old and slow you had to literally power the cueball with bottom english and backspin your way to shape.

The tables said the traditional "Brunswick since 1847" or something to that effect and it should say "Brunswick.. not refelted or releveled since 1847" to accurately represent those tables. So then after realizing the table blew I walked around and instead of watching players i decided to look at the others tables quality. Absolutely f*cking horrible. All with huge water stains and black stains etc. Great brand of tables and balls but they arent kept up at all.

The only good thing about the place was the guy hiring had excellent taste in his waitresses. They were hot.

I took a picture, bought a tshirt, and left.

I'm going to write a full boston review on my blog and talk in more detail but I'm so disappointed I had to put something on here.. Also I have like 150 pics to edit / size etc. so that'll take a bit to update that page.

Cheers... back to the pool table.

Wow....now I feel bad to have steered you in BBC direction!!! Which one did you go to? The one downtown, near the stadium?

I went to two of 'em while I was there, and both were great. Tables were nice, rolled right, newer cloth, etc.

I'm shocked....and feel the need to apologize for (maybe) being the reason you had such a horrible time.

I owe you a beer, should we ever meet (and ONE set of 9-ball, just for the hell of it).

Ah no need to apologize. I went to the one off 126 brookline? I believe was the name of the street. I play enough pool that going to a place that sucks wont bother me a bit because I'll just go to a good one soon thereafter :)

Was There A Tea Party ?

I don't know if you're a culprit or a forensics expert...

( you should have tried their baked beans... imo ) :)

I played at the boston billiard club in worcester in a tournament a couple years ago and the tables and atmosphere where great and the food was awesome.

I have noticed that pool halls that cater to bangers and not players tend to have crappy equipment

i play at boston billiard's all the time and the equipment there is always very good.

cubc...I don't why you would expect to find "action" at Boston Billiards. It is a sports bar, not an action joint. If you wanted action, there are a lot better places, but you probably would have to take a good cab ride. I've been to many of the Boston Billiards rooms around NE and they have all been nice, with good equipment. Haven't been to the one you went to though.

Well it was the first time I have ever been to boston and I just picked that one because someone suggested it here and some others I know also mentioned they've heard a lot about it. There were many pool halls listed in the area though just was a further cab drive like you said. But either way I figured out of a place that size there had to be at least SOME good players. Good ol local pool halls in NC had better :)

All I can say is sorry I was out of town til today. I'm no high roller but you probably would have had a better time. Your assesment is true though action tends to be slim. If you're ever back in town give me a holler.
