Bouncing ball off rails

Another problem! Balls bounce off my cushions. Actually, one end rail is worse than the others; the others aren't that bad. I assume that this affects ball path. Is this a cushion height problem only or worn out cushions? This is a 1974 Brunswick Windsor and I don't know what cushion height should be a google for one manufacturer said 1 13/32 inch. Best I can tell, mine is 1 14/32 inch. This is the original cloth, do you think it shedding fibers for 44 years could account for increased height and balls bouncing?

A new career development might have me selling this house, so, hmmm... spending $600 to recloth with Simonis gives cause for pause. (A possibility the table would stay with the house.) On the low end, if I allow my friend to do the work for $150, and buy Championship cloth instead of Simonis, it would cost half that, around $300. But new bumpers.. how much? I see $40 but I also see $100 and I thought I also saw $200 somewhere. What would I replace with and about how much is the cost installed?

Comments appreciated.

Table is not worth anywhere near the amount you are going to have to put into it to make it play right. I would leave it be and if you are moving leave it there. Being honest.

Numerous reasons why a cushion could be playing dead compared to other cushions on the same table or even other areas on the same cushion - Rubber gone bad (too soft or too hard), back of cushion rubbers loose from the sub rails and need to be removed and re-glued back on, areas where cushion is drooping from people sitting on the table, rail bolts not tight enough, rail nose too high or too low, cheap quality rubber to start with, the wrong rubber cushion profile on the table, just to name a few. A good mechanic / installer should be able to diagnose the problem very quickly and offer a solution.

Newly installed cushions can be pricey, once you count the cost of the cushions ($50 - $200+) plus the labor to remove the old cushions, clean off the subrail surface and properly install the new cushions and new facings - easily another $150+ in labor for the cushion work alone. This is also a reason you want a professional installer who has much experience having installed numerous sets of new cushions on tables, if you want it done right so the cushions are glued on absolutely dead straight and the cushions/facings at the pockets are cut and angled properly.

Thanks for replies. I played on it some more and it's probably good enough for us, lol. If I hadn't been looking, it wouldn't have bothered me much. Right now, I'd just lean to putting the cheaper cloth on it and if the rail problem looks to be one of the more simple fixes, do that; otherwise, I'll probably not replace cushions.

In my experience, this is an installation problem. I've seen an 8 table room where every table in the place did this. Admittedly, the tables in question were the same kind used for the tournament in The Color of Money and supposedly were just about crap if they weren't set up right.

Pushout...Set up correctly, though, Murray tables played great! The reason they were used in COM is because the owner of Murray got to Scorcese before Brunswick and made them a deal! LOL The early bird catches the worm!
