i went to white diamonds tourney last night and i saw a guy playing with a old looking beat up box cue.....after his match was over i asked him if i could take a look at his cue he said sure....he pulled it out of the case and i was suprised all ebony nose with ivory boxes in forearm...brass color joint looked really crazy...worn out cortland wrap..ebony butt sleeve with big ivory boxes...and what do i see SHICK WITH DATE ON BUTT...cue had the bumper missing and was well used...lots of dents and scratches an broken section of one of the ivory boxes....it was really neat to see such a cue being used and used like it was suppose to be used...the collector in me wanted to rescue it and have it redone to new...but the more i thought about it the more i realized that it was doing what it was intened to do....i tried to buy it...but it was not for sale was going to be hanned down to his daughter a player also....i just thought it was neat that no one was even giving it a second look....most just thought it was some peice of junk i am sure....but man i was in love when i first saw it across the room....mickey carroll

In his first 25 years of cuemaking, Bill Schick made 8 box cues. You definitely saw something rare. I bought his 9th box cue, made in 1998, originally for the Dent collection. Wish I had seen the cue with you.

That's a great story, something I was telling about my girlfriend the other was that if we lived in the US it would happen that I saw a few of these cues just by looking at what others are playing with on the table next to me... and then this story comes up. Wish I could have been there, I am fond of Bill's work. People here don't even know Gus or Barry or Schick, they only know Balabushka (yes, the signed one) so the chances for this are... 0.
