This has to be done because these are the TV rounds so we have to have a set number of matches (not a possible double-dipping situation). Additionally, statistics show that for ratings, it is best to not have the same player in all 3 matches which can potentially happen with a true double elimination.
Actually, i was just expecting it to go back to the way it used to.
True double elim., till the final where it was one race.
That way, if the winner of the hot seat loses to the winner of the losers bracket (someone who was allowed to lose a match) at least they would still have second locked up as fair compensation if they didn't get their opportunity to have a loss like everyone else. I'd still rather see true double elim., but what are you gonna do.
In this format, with the redraw, it's possible for the 2 ladies on the winners side, to lose to the 2 ladies from the losers side, and get 3rd/4th prize money.
I just don't see that as fair compensation for having a winning record.
That's just me. The ladies might be ok with it.
I completely understand what you are saying. Aside from the money, the other difference is you have 4 players in the final 3 matches instead of 3 players in the final 3 matches, and there is no possible repeat of the hotseat match and final with the same 2 players or the same player in all 3 matches.
To not have any repeat matches is a good thing from a TV perspective, but since i am a die-hard, i am more focused on the players with the better records being compensated for it.
But at least it's not that redraw final 16 crap. That was just ridiculous.
This way, it's being narrowed down to the top 4 players in the event which i guess is alright, but i'd still rather see the redraw eliminated, or some pro-rated compensation happen, based on performance.
Like if the girls with no losses both lose in the redraw to get 3rd/4th, then they would receive MORE then if the girls who got 3rd/4th came from the losers side. Not a boatload of difference, but something to reflect their performance record.
Obviously, this is probably way to complicated to put into practice, but that is more my focus then ratings.
My focus is always about the money being allocated to the people that deserve it more.
