Mathew and Murell cue

Whats up Mathew, I know this is a little off the subject but, how is the hit on that Murrell? I have 3 that are going to be ready right before Kenny moves to Fl and still need to let him know about the weight and tapers as well when they get a little closer to the completion stage. I remember reading a post just yesterday and someone comparing the hit as soft compared to maybe a Gilbert, Southwest maybe. I was just wondering if you can describe the hit and if the tapers on your shafts are his modified European taper or not? He told me that he could make them hit as stiff as a board if I'd like by changing the taper but someone also told me in person that they are comparible to a Gilbert which is definitely not the softest of hits. If the standard is a softer hit I would like to get all of them with the stiffer taper because I will most likely be keeping one of these to play with. I actually placed another order that will be ready in 2007 after he relocates with similar windows to your cue but using cocobolo on cocobolo. That cue you have looks awesome and I can't wait to get mine. If you could compare the hit to a SW-mace-Bluegrass or something along the lines of being very stiff I would appreciate the input.

Hey trav the Kenny murrell cue hits super awsome with his modified european taper. My shafts are 13 mm.I dont think his cues hit soft or realy hard.it is hard to say but don't mess with the taper because it is one of the best feeling and hitting shafts that you will ever play with. The shafts are not soft feeling or whippy they are just right lol I no that sounds funny but I would say at least 7 out of 10 people would say that the kenny murrell shaft plays better than my budies jerry franklin cue he has and it seems every one loves that cue.The shafts hit nice and firm and have great action on the cue ball the shafts just feel natural I did not have to get used to them at all when i played with the cue it played awsome right out of the shoot.hope this helps and when ya get them in let me no I may buy one from ya!!!

Murrell

Hope it's ok to jump in with Matthew here but I just wanted to agree with his opinion on how Murrell's 'hit'. While they do have that common flat faced joint feel it's a lot more firm than that. I think that's because structuraly the cue is just made more solid and the shafts are responsive without a lot of deflection. You're definitely not going to be dissapointed with his cues. I play in the same pool hall as John from Wolfbite (Murrell dealer/friend) and I've had the pleasure of seeing all his Murrell cues including a couple Stainless Steel jointed ones. I have yet to see one that is poorly made or even questionable. :)

Thanks guys for all of the helpful info. I am happy to hear that about these cues. I think I will take the advice and just stick with the standard european taper. It sounds like the cues are well constructed and play solid. The last cue I was really used to was a Rick Howard (mace) and regret I ever sold it and have been switching cues honestly for about 5 years now without much satisfaction. I have heard nothing but good things about Murrell and am glad to be a dealer of his cues. I got two cues made up with the wood choices that I prefer with intentions of keeping one. The way they are being described this transaction may be a non profit deal with me hogging all 3 from my first order to myself, lol. I will probably keep one and I will send you pics when I get them Mathew if and see if you may be interested. One is going to be a 6 point cocobolo with maple points, no veneers, segmented handle, another 8 point burl into ebony with blue and white veneers- ebony handle, and the last another 8 pointer snakewood into maple with (his choice) on the ringwork and wrap so I am not sure what he'll do on this one.
