No waiting. Trusted seller.
This could easily qualify as the most understated fact posted on Az forum this calendar year.
The seller is one of the most reputable, upstanding, cooperative members of the Az community.

You would have to search long, wide and hard to find someone as trustworthy as this seller is.
I’d buy, sell & trade with him all day long, 7 days a week, plus his pool cues & cases are exquisite.

Martin,

Back in 2015 when I was having my last custom cues made due to CA’s ivory ban taking effect July 1, 2016,
I was searching for Cortland Linen as a wrap but I wanted white with black speck. I searched for over a year
and posted a reward for finding me any. You stepped up and offered me a cue maker that might have some.

Well, he did have a leftover spool and I had him send 50 yards to Jerry Rauenzahn. When it arrived, months
in advance of completing my cue, I was thrilled. Ultimately Jerry had to scrap the Cortland because after he
started spinning it on the cue, about 20 yards into the wrap, the Cortland was all frayed and brittle. He tried
steaming the Cortland to salvage it but alas, it wasn’t suitable for use so I had Jerry substitute CL#9 instead.

You had no way of knowing the wrap wasn’t usable, and the initial 20 yds of linen fishing line looked okay but
it wasn’t meant to be. And I was offering in a Az thread I was willing to pay up to $250 for 50 yds. of Cortland
linen white w/ bulk speck and never got any responses other than best of luck on finding some. You actually
went out of your way to see if you knew of anyone that had some and didn’t try to resell it to me but instead
you were the only one that passed along helpful information. It was a very kind gesture I’ve never forgotten.

At that time, I had two custom cues underway to be completed before the stupid ivory ban took effect. One
cue was by Jerry R. and the other was by Bob Owen, a tremendous cue making talent that was still mostly
recognized for building Shurtz Cues that he ultimately purchased from Jack. Bob had already made me a
custom cue in 2014 and it used CL#9 for a wrap. I didn’t want to use it on my 2nd cue from Bob and since
the CL white w/bulk speck wrap turned out to be a disaster, I wasn’t sure what to use so I reached out to you
for suggestions. You recommended gray elephant belly leather. I wasn’t crazy about using elephant since I
have elephant ear leather on my Ed Prewitt cue and am not thrilled with it. It feels almost like a golf club grip.

You sent me some photos of different wraps and I took your advice and bought the gray elephant belly wrap
from you and you sent it straight to Bob Owen in time for him to complete my cue before the ban took effect.

Both Jerry R. and Bob Owen went out of their way to complete my cues before July 1, 2016 which was 2-3
months earlier than their original completion forecast for my pool cues. And the elephant wrap you selected
looks so much better on my cue than any CL wrap I could have used. Plus, the texture is absolutely terrific.

Aside from the above, there have been other occasions where you’ve assisted me with a problem & it was a
wonderful reflection on you as a person, not just a businessman. I know there are others that value you as a
acquaintance, friend, supplier of exquisite pool cues and phenomenal selection of leather wraps for pool cues.
You are a stand up person, IMO, and a very valuable resource for the billiard community overall and Az as well.

Hi Matt, Thank you so much for the kind words. Although I'm no saint, I do try to be helpful and conduct business in such a way that I can continue to call myself trusted seller. I have enjoyed pool and cues since my teenage years. My first 2 piece cue I bought in 1969 at Sears for $9. It had a raminwood shaft. Lol. Thanks to my grandma, I upgraded to a National Tournament rosewood merry widow a few months later ($32.50). I bought and sold lots of Huebler, Meucci and McDermott cues then. I'd go broke, sell and then buy again. Hahaha. In 1977, I had Bill Stroud build me a 4 point Joss. Then I found Tim Scruggs. I bought 5 of his cues in his first 2-3 years including a couple sneaky petes and I sold a few cues for him taking orders. Gus made me 2 cues in 1983 and Jerry Frankiln made me a nice merry widow ($225.00!). The interest in pool game, the cues and the desire to save money to buy a house enouraged me to try selling cues, making cue wraps and dying veneers. Bob Owen and Ariel Carmeli were my first leather wraps customers with soft Kangaroo. Lol. From 2007 to 2010 I worked 1 or 2 days at Ariel's shop. I'm going to be 70 soon. I'm thankful for the relationships I have with cuemakers and my customers. I feel fortumate to enjoy moderate success at what I do but the truth is that it just involves work. Although things have changed a lot in 20 years here at AZB, I enjoy the community here and I always post whatever I receive here first. Best regards! Martin
