brass a-joint pin

I am making a cue out of some of the old McDaniels wood Hangemhigh has for sale. I was wanting to use the old growth handles he has also. My question is, is it ok to use a 3/8-10 brass pin for the A-joint or is the brass to soft. If it is too soft, what is a good way to add weight? I am planning on using a metal sleeved joint over phenolic with a brass modified pin. Thanks in advance.

Hi Horse
The brass works very well as long as your tenin is good and you use the right glue. As far as weight and balance, it's all about what you want to achieve for a final. Taper is a contributing factor, Stainless sleeve also adds weight.
 
another thought for a joints

Whats wrong with Handles threaded on both ends (big or small- but with good threads (hand done.) Some cue makers consider the A joint ( a secret to playability, and feel) and they won't post how or why. Keep asking. Thanks for Helping poster . MR. M Webb. I love those Fronts!!!!mark
