Break and runs on very tight pocket tables

If at first you don't succeed...

I bought my own 7 ft. pool table about 3 years ago and decided to modify it to have tight pockets (quadruple shimmed 3 3/4" corner openings - sides 3 7/8").

No one has ever had an 8-ball break and run on my table until last night when I finally did so.

Several of my friends who come over to play along with myself have had many 8-ball break and runs on *regular* bar tables, but we could never quite do it on my tight pockets table. We get down to the last ball or two and the ball would rattle in the pocket or there would be some other problem.

Last night I just broke and started shooting in balls (good spread around table from break making things easier - no clusters). I was leaving the cue ball where I wanted it for each next shot and suddenly realized I was down to the last ball before the 8 - a cut into the corner.

However there was a problem of course. Using follow or a center hit would send the cue ball right into the 8-ball. (No telling what shot on the 8 that would leave me - probably no shot.) Also there was lots of "traffic" in that area (about 4 of my opponent's balls). But I saw I could shoot with stun and avoid the 8 and the other balls and the cue ball would then come off the rail hopefully avoiding the other balls and leaving me with a shot on the 8.

The shot worked perfectly, the 8 was about 6 inches from the corner pocket and the cue ball was left about a diamond away with a slight cut into the corner. Needless to say I took my time with this last shot. (Told my friend "This is it! Watch me mess it up. I'm taking my time on this 8-ball shot!") I made it (Yeaaa!)

Sounds like it was a good day! Very nice job, wish I could see a video of it... :D
