Break cue broke

Like the title says. I went to a local bar after my tournament last night.

Slow tables and dirty balls. You are very fortunate if 3 balls hits a rail on the

break. Anyways I broke the balls hard as hard as I could and my cue

snapped and wood went flying everywhere. I did save the shaft and the

jump part of the stick so that's the positive side. Has anyone else ever had

anything happen to them like that?

Yep, I break so hard I have to bring multiple shafts to every match I play. I destroy a shaft every five breaks or so.
 
I broke a Poison Venom break shaft.
The Predator Group said they would replace it, thanks for reminding me>>:smile:
That's the first shaft I've ever shattered, what an odd feeling when it happens.

What kind of cue did you snap, maybe someone has an inexpensive shaft for it.
 
it was a break/jump cue. It was the jump part of the butt that shattered. Really strange that the shaft and the lower part of the butt is still good.

I suppose it's possible it wasn't screwed down tightly at the joint in the butt.

When you say the "jump part" I am guessing you mean what would be the forearm when the cue is screwed together. The joint between the handle and the forearm would be the equivalent of the A joint. I have always seen this as a poor place to put a screw together joint, especially any kind of quick release. It's one of the reasons I don't particularly care for jump/break cues (even though I am currently using one).

There could have also been a crack in it from a previous incident where you broke with it when it wasn't tightly screwed together.

Or perhaps you have a bionic arm that can shatter hardwood.... :wink:

I broke the last break cue that I had - it was a Billiards Warehouse Break/Jump Cue, and it was the joint screw that broke after about 3 - 4 years. I can break pretty hard and bend the shaft when I do, so I figured it was due to the stress from that over time.

Interesting that it was part of the butt of your cue that actually shattered though. If it helps, I bought a Lucasi Hybrid Big Beulah 2 to replace the broken cue and I love it.

Glad to see that someone else has had this happen to them - it was pretty embarrassing at the time! :o

Ya about 2 months ago I heard a crack when I broke with it. It was in the back of my mind that it would eventually break. I guess the good thing is the shaft is still good on it so I may try and find a butt for it. I just don't know what kind of joint it is. When I have time I'll post a pic and try to get some feedback from you guys. When it happened the owner of the bar comes running over cause he thought I broke one of his sticks. I think he thought it was funny because I've broke a lot of tips off his bar cues from breaking
 
i havent snapped a shaft or butt yet but I did somehow make the brass insert for the shaft on my Predator BK2 start to pull out about a 1/4 inch now it wont tighten up. i tried pulling it all the way out and regluing it, but I screwed it up pretty good.

On a similiar note speaking of slow tables and dirty balls. On a practice table during league earlier this season. I broke and the cue ball stopped dead in its tracks. and i noticed some white chunks in front if it. Here the impact broke a chunk off the cue ball, (never seen that before) everybody was like WTF so I took the ball home as a sovenier (sp)

LOL! I had that happen back in about 1986 at a friend's house. They were pretty cheap balls I guess but I sure was stoked that I broke a cue ball! LOL! :D

To date I have broken 4 shafts and 1 object ball.... Stresses come into play over time when you have constant impacts......
 
Haha I never heard of a cue ball breaking. I guess I haven't seen it all just yet. And yea I was pretty embarrassed as well. I swear the whole bar stopped and started looking at me
 
Buddy did

A buddy of mine broke the joint on his shaft a couple of weeks ago. He breaks in the low 20's and had the cue for years. I have a Diveney Ebony jump/break cue with the radial pin. If I keep it screwed together tight it will out last me, I don't have a very hard break.

One of my buddies was playing at a bar near my house and absolutely shattered the cue ball on the break. Thing went flying everywhere and even put a nice nick into the wall behind the table. Was pretty crazy.

Could it have been one of the old "dynamo" tables that uses the ridiculous "weighted" cue ball?? Hitting that thing might break any cue! LOL
