Break Cue Question

I am 6' 5" tall and use a Carter 60 inch cue. My break cue is a 1st edition sledgehammer jump/break. I would like some advise of some experince players, if I should talk to a custom cue maker about making me a 60 inch break cue. The only problem is it feels funny being 2 inches shorter. I do not feel like I am getting my full stroke on the break.

Try doing like Corey and grip it on the very end, on the buttcap. If you are not doing this now then that'll give you a bit more cue to stroke. Try to stay away from longer j/b's as the length takes some of the stiffness away thus hurting performance. I've experimented with j/b lengths to no end. In a nutshell...the shorter the better.;)

Why not buying a custom made extender?

J/B length

I agree with Varney Cues and I don't think you want a longer J/B cue. Just grip the cue near the butt cap if you aren't already doing this and try to keep a smooth level stroke when you break the balls. If you shoot down on the cue ball you will jump the table now and then and that spells disaster playing 9 ball.

Wow, you don't hear that very much do ya.
But really, I use a short duffrin for breaking and it hits a ton.

I used to break with a short 55" carom libre cue, hits perfect, but sold it :( . Right now using a 58" break cue, don't like the lenght

very sound advice. but be aware if you want the cue ball to jump up a bit on impact with the one you need to elevate the butt slightly. i actually find it's easier to keep whitey in the centre of the table when it lands there from a few inches off the slate, rather than bouncing back off the one and having to apply more topspin.

Thanks for the advise, one thing I was concerened about was the losing the stiffness with the longer shaft. I notice a lot of of give with my playing cue, but with my arm length I can not get comfortable with a 58 inch cue. I never thought about a cue extension. I think for now I will try sliding my grip back to the end of the cue. Thanks again.
