Break Cue Speed

So I am having a new custom break cue built and had a couple of questions.

I own a varney jump break cue with a laminated shaft and white diamond-like tip with a canvas resin ferrule. This cue is very stiff and from what I've gathered from the research online this is most favorable.

I want to have two shafts made for the cue, one with a white diamond tip and the other with a leather tip for 8-ball breaks. This cue will not be a jump cue in addition to being used for breaking.

So my question are,

1. Will I get more speed on my break for "straight on" breaks with the laminated shaft?

2. Will I get more jive on the cue ball for the 2nd ball break in 8-ball with a laminated shaft and a leather tip?

3. What type of joint will give me the hardest hit for my break shot?

Can't answer the first two, but for my money nothing hits harder than a wood-to-wood joint, such as a radial pin joint.

Thanks for the input. I am thinking 3/8 x 11 like my southwest that I play with now.
