I'm struggling with a choice of getting a new break cue or not I shoot league on valley tables with championship cloth and out tournaments have murcery ultra felt I currently use a 25 ounce break cue with a old la pro medium tip I speed break with it to get any kind of results but I am constantly severely warping shafts do I need to change cues or buy a expensive shaft and if I go with a new shaft do I trade tips for a white diamond

A new tip won't help with a warped shaft. You are either buying really bad quality shafts or not taking care of them properly (keeping in a car or storing them in a damp basement or something). 25 oz is also really heavy for a break cue. Many players actually use a lighter break cue than their playing cue.

Get a J&J break/jump cue for about $70, I have had one for a couple of years with no issues.

I would suggest you to start breaking with much, much, much lighter break cue,I would recommend you to break with a cue which is less then 19OZ.Power is highly connected with a speed and if you want to achieve more speed then your strokes and especially the final stroke need to be faster.I don't know any pro player who breaks with such a heavy break cue.

Thanks guys I have been looking at the gator Adam jump break 20 ounces with g10 tip would that better suit my needs and it was a cheap shaft then I bought a meucci break shaft for it and withinh a month it's warped the cues are stored in a case unless they are used and it's not cold or damp

Surprisingly, Efren Reyes breaks with a 25oz break cue.

Anyway I have a question relating to this topic as well. Are phenolic tips still legal in tournament play? I've read an article that it was allowed again. If they are legal, what phenolic tip brands do you guys recommend? And if phenolic is illegal, my best bet is a hard tip? Or one of those mixed leather/phenolic tips? Advice would be appreciated :)

I have this Orange Crusher avail in fantastic condition all set up with a Samsara break tip.

Made in USA, high quality breaker in a very subtle design. :)

$170 shipped if interested.

The import J&J that was suggested is also a great choice, those are under $100.

If you are speed breaking with a 25 oz cue, I will never arm wrestle you for the cash. :grin-square::eek:

25 oz is way to heavy, imo.

Also, you were asking about break tips, so:

There have been quite a few threads about which are the best break tips and consistently, in these threads the two winners are:

Leather - Samsara

Phenolic - White Diamond

hope this helps.

Well, this is what you have heard but it isn't true.He doesn't break with 25OZ break.
Once you will be at the same place as he is,ask him and let me know what he tells you.I saw him last month the last time and his break cue was 21OZ what is also much heavier then other pros break with.

Many pool players think they break hard until they use the speed app and find out they are actually below 20mph. I would recommend getting it and recording the results to see where you stand.

Also, the age old debate of heavy vs light and speedy break cue. Personally I use a lighter break cue (18oz) and it allows me to get the fastest speed but if someone prefers heavier break cues I have never seen a problem with that. To me it's a matter of personal preference.

There doesn't seem to be much information on White Diamond. However for Samsara, I'm reading mixed reviews. I'd say a little over half say it's a really good tip, the other keeps saying it has a tendency of falling off the ferrule. There's also a video of one guy on YouTube who broke with it, and it fell off the ferrule. When the guy picked it up, the tip was still glued to a piece of wood that was INSIDE the ferrule. I also heard Tiger Icebreakers were good too?
