Break Cues do you like em lighter or Heavy ...

my regular break cue is 17.5,but I just pick up a 19.5 ph shaft break/jump that hits very solid.Going to stick with it for awhile.

Weight is not the only criteria to use when selecting a cue for Breaking. If you have ever seen a Break shot in slow motion, you will see the shaft deflects to a warped look at impact. Column strength in the shaft is a necessary ingredient as well. Add to that a hard leather tip (I'm not a fan of phenolic tips) & you have a Break Cue ready to do that work.

I have a laminated shaft that comes in about 13.7, the feel at impact is solid. The taper is specially designed to have that column strength I talked about.

Everybody has a nose & an opinion, good luck in your quest to find a good cue for you.

I have built per customer specs break cues from a little under 18 to 23 oz. I think it depends on the player and conditions. Interesting observation ---- in hot and very high humidity specs seems to be for the heavier break cues.

I think so

Would the individual's ratio of slow/fast muscle fibers be a factor?

Consider a small martial artist who has spent many years developing hand speed. I suspect he benefits from a lighter stick.

A power lifter may be far stronger than the martial artist, but he can not generate nearly the hand speed. Also, his hand speed is basically the same with a sixteen or twenty-six ounce stick. I suspect he benefits from using the heavier stick.

If we measured the peak velocity at cue ball contact a person could reach with a heavy cue and a light cue I suspect that after we tested enough people we would have a very good idea what weight cue would work best for each individual.

I'm not an expert on bio-physics by any means but I suspect a longer more fluid break stroke gets a person closer to their peak velocity with any cue than a short compact stroke. I'd like to know how big of a factor grip is too. Like so many other things in pool, I think that when it comes to break cues thinking one size(weight) fits all is a mistake.

Playing cue - between 18.5-19 is most comfortable for me
Break cue - 18-18.5

So I am in the slightly lighter category.

Exactly the same deal here
