Anybody play in or run one of these? What's the format as to entry, pay-out and rules? TIA for any info.

Most of the time, it is a side event to a weekly tourny-You may have to put in an extra $5 or 10 and they draw one name a week who gets to take a shot at the break n run and the pot grows until someone hits it. As it grows, better and better players start showing up to the weekly. In some formats, whoever gets picked is allowed to pick a substitute to make the attempt. Deals are made with the player.

One time Accu-stats broadcasted one -where Stevie Moore was picked to by the player. He got a lot of bad position but after an excruciating 30 min- He ran out- Was probably for $3k or so but i don't remember specifically.

They had one at a pool room where I used to go after a tournament each week. It got reduclous. It was looking like no one would win. It was like $2,500.00 when someone finally won it.

One format I’ve seen is that if you make a ball on the break and then make a ball after the break, you can stop and take whatever money you made. So if it’s at $1000, it’s $100/ball (in 10 ball). That makes it easier to win some money, and makes the decision-making a little more interesting.

This is what we do in league. 10 ball so x/10 $ per ball. You can stop anytime you like, but if you continue and miss, you lose it all.

Tickets are sold each week. $10 buys you seven tickets.

One ticket is drawn. If the player breaks dry, one more ticket is drawn that is worth half of the amount of the first attempt. If that player breaks dry, it all carries over to the following week.

The pot accumulates until the end of the session. On the final night of the session, tickets are drawn and people play until the part is completely depleted.

Ticket sales from the final night then carryover and establish the starting pot for the next session.

The pot can get up to five or $6000 on occasion. Only league players can participate. Lots of fun…

I used to run a break pot. 5 a ticket. Trnmnt players got 1 ticket each for playing in trnmnt. Only trnmnt players could play. Outsiders would hand money to them for tickets. Break pot started with 500 from the bar. We played 9 ball but only paid 10% per ball so pot would never go empty. Had to make a ball on the break then a legal ball to get paid. Could quit and get paid. I racked the balls on the toughest table. 9 on the break got respotted and play continued but 9 didn't pay until pocketed in rotation play. Most of these players weren't gamblers so it was a good time for most.
We didn't pay for balls made on the break either to keep the pot up.

the ones in tournaments ive played in is generally if you miss no pay out
some you can stop on the break if you make a few and get paid for those, or just a smaller percentage
but full pay per ball usually come with making atleast one ball after the break

some wont pay anything for balls down on the break, you must make one after to get paid for the others off the break

same in my bca leagues

I played in another places where it was 580 a ball. Made a ball on the break with a simple kick at a hanging 1 ball. Problem is 2 was tied up but I could break it with a firm kick at the 1. Made the 1 broke out the 2 and scratched. They paid for balls on the break but no pay if you missed or scratched. 1160.00 followed that cueball down the drain.

i made 4 balls once at 250 a ball, had a very makeable but also very missable cut on the 5 ball in the side, felt enormous pressure and said, fuk that, im done lol

but the whole table was open for the taking, no point risking it to me, felt like a king leaving with a grand in my pocket

They had one in Louisiana a few years back when I was traveling through. It was 10 ball on the 10' table at Lacy's Cue. It was up to $200 a ball. I went to buy tickets before they did the drawing and the guy said they'd only sold about 20 tickets. I bought another 40 at $1 per ticket. I won the drawing and broke and ran four balls for the easiest $800 I've ever made in pool.

Best one I've seen was at Cr's. Raffle tickets for a buck. Every league night and tournament night. Buy as many as you like. 10 ball, call shot, wood rack, 9ft diamond, stop anytime after the first ball after the break is called and made. You attempt and miss, you lose( might have been $50 to run it out after a miss. Can't remember.)
One tournament pot, one for league's.
If a team wants to all throw down and put up their best player, no problem.
Iirc one of pots got over $20,000.
Pot/#of balls run=payout. I think they may have held back 1 or 2 hundred for the next time if the whole rack was run.

a few of the tournament pots got real big last yr, couple times over 30k
read where someone got over 15k one night

the odds though to get a ticket there, so many people buying shit loads of tickets
when they get that big they dont let just anyone come to it, have to have played several of theyre tournaments
