I get all the Breaks

When doing a Break Pot. What is the going rule set. Other than the obvious.

1. Player shoots even if he doesn't drop a ball on the break.
2. Player loses turn if doesn't drop a ball on the break.
3. Player gets ball in hand after the break to start run.
4. Player plays with cue ball in resting position after the break.

Need some input, need to settle a dispute. Let me know what is most common in your area.

You gotta make something and come with a shot because there is no ball in hand...... You want the pot to grow... so no charity.....

The one they started as Snookers is no ball in hand but you don't have to make a ball, and you have run the whole table even if you sink and early 9 ball (or 10).

1. You must make a ball on the break.
2. Player shoots from where the cue ball stops. No ball-in-hand.
3. Scratch on the break is a loss and the player will receive no money.
4. After the break, the player must legally pocket a ball after contacting the lowest numbered ball on the table in order to collect ANY money.

Those should answer your questions. Those are the rules on the best two pots I have ever heard of. In addition:

5. The player may opt after pocketing the first ball after the break the player may stop and take their current winnings. For example, one ball on the break and one ball after playing 10 ball would pay 20% of the pot.
6. If the player chooses to continue the rack they must now run out in order to collect the entire pot.
7. Any miss after choosing to continue is a loss and the player will receive no money.

I help to run a break pot that's very similar to the standard 9-ball rack, must make one on the break, run till you miss, get 10% per ball you make. etc. I did add one important variation to it where the payout is based on attendance. Instead of everyone going for 10%, we look at the previous two weeks and...

If you've been at the tournament both weeks prior to this week, you go for 10% per ball
If you've been there one out of the past two weeks, you go for 5% per ball
If it's your first time at the tournament in a while (or ever) then you go for 2.5% per ball

When I first added this tweak, everyone loved the idea right off the bat and they still sing its praises today.

Also, we keep pulling a ticket until someone makes money. Could be just one ticket, but we've had up to 11 tickets pulled in one night.

Here's a flowchart that shows how we do it...

above - plus you are paid "per ball" for each ball legally pocketed - not necessary to run the entire table
