Should or should not there be a probationary period before one is able to partake in a breakpot?

I know of a local tournament that has a break pot up to $1,200.00. And last night a "pro" player got drawn. Right away I heard at least 3 comments along the lines of "There goes the break pot!" coming from local participants who built the pot. I really don't think this "pro" helped build the pot and could sense the disdain from those who had.

The pro made a ball and had an out, but failed to convert. But the question above remains.
 
ratnip...Since the tournament is 'open' to anyone, and the draw for who gets to try for the break pot is a random pick, then yes the pro should be allowed to participate. Obviously, even for a pro, they won't 'break the bank' every time. If you and your friends don't like it, petition the owner to set some rules (like to you have to play in so many tournaments to be eligible to try for the break pot).

Scott, I agree with you, but was curious to what others think. Not sure how to set up a poll, otherwise I would have.

That was the first time I was there for the tournament, and would have recieved the same disdain, however without the "there goes the pot" portion. :smile:

I'd be hoping to break the nine in to get the cheese!

I've seen places where they keep track of players (after 5 contributions to the break pot) before allowing their names to be in the "hat". And others where they sold tickets, limiting the participation.
