Break shaft

Does anyone sell shafts that are specific for breaking?. I'm currently using a shaft Bob Dzuricky made me a couple of years ago. It has a cueball ferrule and I've got a white diamond tip on it. It works OK but I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything better?.

I had Mark Bear make me a purple heart shaft with a phenolic ferrule / tip combo and it's very nice for a break shaft.

We have a local cuemaker that makes a break cue with purpleheart shafts and they are pretty cheap. I think they are like 175. If you are interested in this let me know and I'll see if I can get one out to you.

Tony, I know you have a crappy camera :D but I'm interested in looking at the purpleheart break cue .. especially the butt. Can you email me the photo?

I break with with purpleheart shaft now with hard water buffalo tip and am happy. Only thing is I keep wondering what if the shaft was a bit thicker.

Hey Dr.,

What diameter is your purpleheart shaft? I've got some 30" purpleheart squares that I bought with the intent of making a break shaft. I figured I'd leave it around 14 mm to keep it stiff since I'll only be using it to break.

I may be wrong, but I'm assuming you're referring to Jack Kompan. I actually have one of these; mine is 60" (30/30 split), 19 oz., 13 mm tip with a very thick 3 cushion type taper and a Talisman BK tip. Mine is also a little different than Jack's standard break cues in that I had a curly maple buttsleeve added. The shaft is super stiff. I might be selling mine soon, but am not 100% sure yet. Anyways, here is a picture of mine; please keep in mind if you order one of these new from Jack, it won't have the maple butt sleeve on it. It really is a great break cue, especially for the price.

Yeah those are the ones. And the Shaft is really meaty. So you could virtually do anything you want with them.
