? Breaking force,

Can you repeat the question and use different words ?

All breaks require putting force into the CB and having the CB make contact with the rack.
1P breaks want to just barely touch the rack and leave CB where opponent has no shot
9B breaks want a lot of force (except Corey Duel) to spread the balls out and eliminate clusters.

Why is a hard break required in 9ball is the way I understood the inquiry.

Edit- because one guy figured out how to win with a soft break and it was not thought of as entertaining to watch I think is answer.

I think break it anyways you want to... anygame...

Are there any other rules in any other games that you don't like and think should change?

That whole having to break up the next rack with the last ball from the previous rack in 14.1 is kind of a pain in the ass…

... and one-pocket would be much easier if I could use a couple of the other pockets too. 😁

Seems there a thread every week or so about changing 9 ball rules away from the dozen or so accepted rule sets.

I noticed they didn't change the 1pkt rules when Cory used the smash break . Might be different if he ran 8 and out repeatedly.

I have solved the 9 ball break issue. Just break like I do. Break hard, medium, cut break, dead on head ball, soft, spin, no spin and never ever make a ball. I can break ten times in a row and never make a ball. It staggers the imagination sometimes. Worst break in the history of pool.

So, why change a game from "the object is to break and run out" into a game of "the object is to break really hard and run out"

It seems to me that the soft break is viable as long as you get a decent percentage of run outs--and has not change the game--EXCEPT where others have to learn how to soft break like Corey to raise their game.

In other words rather than learning the soft break they change the rules so they don't have to.

1p and 9b are different discipline -don't see why break rules has to be consistent across different disciples.

Matchroom have to fix that hard break rule at discretion of ref cos it is too subjective. Maybe use some scientific equipment like speedometer to quantify or measure strength of break

I thought the object was to break and win but that's not the case. One must break hard , for some reason.

I think it speaks to the general weakness of the game. It's checkers. It's a game where the top players routinely play races to 50 or 100 to determine the best of the day.

The new balk line could be one diamond square in the middle of the end rail…kinda like moving the pitcher‘s mound back.

Or just concede that 9ball at the pro level is too easy of game and doesn't lend to the best player always winning. Play something else as the standard.

Here is an idea. Rack 9 ball on the head spot like normal. 9 still in the middle of the rack. But all the other balls at random and the only stipulation is that the 1 ball cannot be the head ball. That way you can't play for a shot after the break.

Is the rule that the 1 must be hit during the break shot going away or should we start practicing the kick break?
