breaking with an OB2 shaft?

So I'm practicing right now and I decided just once I would try to break with my OB2/playing cue... And I actually liked it better than using a break cue.

I didn't slam the ball but used a speed that was equivalent to what I may use on a power draw shot.


Is there really any potential damage I could do to the ferrule or shaft? I don't see how it could be worse than when you really need to move whitey around.

I've been breaking with mine for at least a year. I don't own a break cue. I also break hard..

I've never hit a position shot as hard as I break, unless I'm trying to take out someone within 10 feet..

I usually cut break which IMO doesn't require as hard a break speed.

Either way, you've been breaking with an OB2 for a year with no adverse effects?
 
I put a hard tip on one for a guy that breaks with his.... it has 2 splits/delaminations near the tip...........

I told him it's ready to blow up....

For you guys that prefer to break with your game-shaft, particularly if it's L/D, I have a suggestion for you.
Next time you break, have a buddy stand next to the table, off to the side.
He should have his eyes about table height and tell him to watch your shaft.
Now go ahead and break and ask him how much your shaft buckled.
Do it several times for good comparison. I'll bet that it buckles a lot.
When a shaft buckles, that's lost energy that should have gone thru the QB.
You're trying to create 30MPH acceleration on a 6-6.5oz object in a span of 6-7 ft with a noodle.
I'm strong on Predator but I don't believe a break-cue should have a laminated shaft, whatever the configuration.
My break-shaft is 14mm, 1 pc Maple.
