breathing & pool stroke

I recall June Hager Walter saying she would run out of breath at the end of her run. Hmm... She was such a cool cat!

I heard one fine good tip once: on tough shots, let out a deep breath before your final stroke. It's an amazing tool. If you haven't tried it, TRY it and then pm me or post a reply. I know I was amazed.

"let out a deep breath before your final stroke" Do mean as I pause as in "set, pause, freeze?"

I see a lot of people hold their breath on the last few balls of a hill-hill for set for $$$$. Then again another orfice snaps shut too in those situations. Johnnyt

I use a breathing pattern for the final few strokes after I'm locked in. In on back strokes, out on forward strokes, out slowly through the shot stroke. Matching my strokes to my breathing slows me down, smooths my strokes and helps me focus. Breathing slowly throught the shot stroke is a rifle shooting technique that helps focus and avoids extraneous breathing movement.

It helps me, and is totally habitual now - no thinking involved. In fact, it has a meditative effect: helps me avoid distracting thoughts.

Thank you. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Awesome! For me, I only do it on shots that I consider tough (ones I might be a little nervous about, too) - so I don't release the deep breath this on all shots... just a select few - but it does seem to help.

Use it as a sharking move. Ask your opponent if he breathes in or out when he pulls the trigger.

I was joking around with a guy one night and tried this. Couldn't stop laughing because I sharked myself.

The legendary golf hustler, Dutch Harrison, once asked his opponent, a young phenom, who was killing him, whether he breathed in or out just prior to his backswing. The poor kid never hit another good shot.
(so I guess it can be a good shark.)
