Hi,

Im new here, as well as relatively new to playing pool often, i have been playing since i was small here and there, but recently decided to take it up.

My problem is that i cannot find a confortable position to place my bridge hand, i play mostly 9 ball so i have been trying to use a closed bridge but due to some past arm injuries i am having trouble finding a good one. I know that there is the basic closed bridge and you cant change much from that, but is this mostly a matter of practice?

Thanks

Try leaning on the table using your bridge hand for support. Your hand will automatically go to a very stable and reletively comfortable position. That is the starting point. Since everyone is a little different, there is no "perfect" bridge...just the best one for you. I know when Randy and I teach together, I have noticed his bridge is very different from mine...but they both work very well.
If it's stable, and comfortable, it's a good bridge.

There are several closed bridge styles. Some people place the tip of their finger on their middle finger with the index bent at 90 degrees, some place their index finger on their thumb, some curl their index finger... as long as it's stable and won't let the shaft move side to side on you AND it's comfortable for you, then it's a good bridge.

I have huge fingers (size 15 to 16 ring on my bridge hand) and arthritis, so I can't do the first bridge mentioned, rather I used the second one and curl my middle finger under my hand. That's the only way, with my hands, that I can make a good closed bridge. Probably 90% of the time, I shoot with an open bridge.
