Bring off brass bevel on 5/16 x 14 shaft?

On the 5/16 x 14 thread shafts there is always that bras bevel that only fits certain brands. The bevel is such that it makes the shaft only fit on a Schon cue, or a falcon, or other brand. So I have to have a different shaft for each of my butts.
My question is what is the point of the bevel? Why not just grind the bevel down flat and then the shaft will fit on any cue that has 5/16 x 14 thread? Will it matter if it's flat or would you even be able to tell the difference it the hit?
Most other pin styles are flat already.

Ugh maybe try it and see for yourself?
 
All of my shafts fit my Titlist & Schon and roll straight. The Schon shafts won't fit the Titlist because of the bevel diameter. Although I do not think its needed my 5/16 x 14 shafts have a short brass extension. Its not as large as the Schon so it will fit both cues.

The purpose is for the threads down into the piloted joint hole. If you cut the brass insert down, you'll lose a couple of threads
