Anyone ever here of a Broadway play with the story taking place in a poolroom set up on stage? I think if it was a hit in NY it would be big for pool in many ways. I wish I knew how to write plays and where to send them that they get read. Johnnyt

I've thought about that. If you're making pool a main part of the play, how do you dramatize the pool playing between people? Most people in the audience would not see the playing level of the table. That's what made the pool playing in the Hustler so satisfying, you saw people making actual shots.

The actual pool is not the story, the pool room is just the back drop. One of the original setting for the tv show Taxi was to be a pool room. Even a show like Seinfeld was totally character driven. A pool room show can be similar.

I guess I was a little hung up with my own idea of how the play would be. I thought it'd be more focused on the playing and the action and the people.

I really like this idea a lot more :D

I never thought of the part of not being able to see the shots. Years ago some famous pool or billiard player put on exibitions on stage. He had mirrors in back of the set. It would look like some of them elagant billiard rooms in those old fancy hotels. Or you could give everyone a cheap pair of opera glasses as they came in. That way some real pool players would go see it thinking they were getting something for nothing.

If it was a hit I can hear it already on AZ "anyone work for a company that has free tickets to that new pool play?" Johnnyt
